Part II - Benefits and Deficiency Charts

Not eating/taking enough LNA can/will lead to these problems in adults, children, and fetus’s. The presence of these indicates a need for more Omega-3 fats.

  • Growth retardation (Fetus’s, Baby’s, and Children’s growth is retarded as is brain/neurological growth/development), and is not believed to be reversible.
General Weakness, low energy, poor oxygenation to the cells (EFA fats and their derivatives are oxygen magnets, pulling oxygen from the blood stream into the body cells to provided energy, without them general fatigue and weakness occur. Metabolism slows as well.
  • Impairment of vision and learning ability
  • Motor incoordination
  • Tingling sensations in arms and legs,
  • Behavioral changes, depression, anxiety, mental illness
  • Weakened immune system, nutrient transport, neurological expression
  • Hormonal issues (All steroidal hormone depend on EFA’s for regulation and balance.)
  • High triglycerides
  • High blood pressure
  • Sticky platelets and red blood cells (Cells clump together inappropriately, causing blockages
  • Tissue inflammation in all parts of the body (Very significant issue for degenerative diseases!)
  • Edema (swelling, water retention, weight gain, puffiness)
  • Dry skin and hair
  • Mental deterioration
  • Low metabolic rate (weight gain, can’t lose weight, may coordinate with reduced thyroid function, depending on other dietary factors)
  • Many forms of Immune dysfunction especially as it relates to the protective barrier of the cell membrane. This is much more important than it sounds to the average lay person.

This really is quite a list! I hope the reader will start taking flax in some form in these amounts today. Don’t buy the seeds already ground as they are already rancid! You will have to grind them yourself just before eating them.

Note to women: If you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or lactating, PLEASE start taking this supplement today! The pre-natal and early infant shortages cause life-long problems, as they are not known to be reversible. There is no doubt about this, so please don’t take this recommendation lightly. You must add sufficient antioxidants with them too, or risk other problems related to oxidation, like toxemia/preeclampsia/PIH. I recommend Juice Plus+ for that, hands down.

Now for the deficiencies, many of which improve by adding Linoleic Acid (LA) or its derivatives, once the body has come back into balance.

Remember though, most people’s diets have a significant overabundance of Omega-6 fats from vegetable oils. Those that are not hydrogenated count in the balance between O-6’s and O-3’s which should not be more than 3:1 to 4:1, but is actually more like 20:1 without intervention.

A Linoleic Acid (LA) Deficiency Chart For adults, children, and fetus’s. The presence of these indicates a need for more Omega-6 fats.

  • Eczema-like skin eruption
  • General Weakness, low energy, poor oxygenation to the cells (EFA fats and their derivatives are oxygen magnets, pulling oxygen from the blood stream into the body cells to provided energy, without them general fatigue and weakness occur. Metabolism slows as well.)
  • Hair loss (not male-patterned baldness, but more like thinning hair)
  • Liver degeneration
  • Behavioral disturbances
  • Kidney degeneration
  • Excessive water loss through the skin accompanied by thirst
  • Drying up of the glands
  • Susceptibility to infections
  • Failure of wound healing (This is really affected by the presence of hydrogenated fats, high glycemic diet, and mineral deficiencies too.)
  • Sterility in males
  • Miscarriage in females (also tied to progesterone deficiency)
  • Arthritis-like conditions
  • Heart and circulatory problems
  • Growth retardation

Along with fruits and vegetables, vegetable based proteins/carbohydrate sources like nuts, seeds, and beans, adding these Omega-3 fats first and then the Omega-6 fats next to a person’s diet could only be an improvement from the fuel many of us have come to know as the Standard American Diet or S.A.D.

I hope this information is interesting and helpful for your life. It has made a great deal of difference for me. Remember the importance of antioxidants and minerals, particularly, but good nutrition in general, for the use of and benefits of these “Essential Fats. Can’t really cut corners on this one! Sorry!

The Barlean’s and fish oil products are available from me on my web site and/or office. The Udo’s Choice is available in health food stores everywhere.

Blessings and happy health,
